“Be yourself. I have never pretended to be anyone but me.” - Brooke Reynolds

Years in the real estate industry?

I started my career when I was 23 years old some 14 years ago, with the very same directors I work for now just under a different name.

How did you get your start as a real estate agent?

My first post was reception but I quickly worked my way through the positions to land myself as head of Property Management 3 years into my career. During that time our team grew our rent roll from 100 - 500 in just 5 years, winning Office of the Year several years in a row. A little over 2 years ago, and after my 3 kids had settled into school, I made the move into Residential Sales and never looked back.

Favourite parts about the business?

I love every aspect of the job, even the hard days, but most important for me is the flexibility. I can schedule my opens and private inspections to suit me and my family. I also love meeting new people every single day. You never know what the day will bring!

Do you have any mentors who helped shape your career?

When I first started, a female agent named Linda Kinnersley really inspired me and I learnt a lot from her. She was extremely motivated, strong-willed and a fantastic operator. She helped shaped who I am today and now she is a dear friend of mine. Later the person I looked up to was Sadhana Smiles. I had the privilege of being trained by her in my early years and she, too, was tenacious and passionate. Even to this day I watch her story and I’m in awe of what she’s achieved.

Can you share some advice for female agents starting out in the industry?

Be yourself. I have never pretended to be anyone but me. I share myself with my vendors - they know my kids’ names, where I grew up and what sort of person I am. Being open has helped me create meaningful rapport, which, in this industry is everything.

What has surprised you most about your career in property?

Doing the small things, the 1% is so incredibly important. And often overlooked by agents!

Top tip?

Honesty is #1 - I provide feedback to my vendors good bad or otherwise. Superior customer service - I call after every inspection, and no less than once a week with feedback. I also take the time with my vendors - whether it’s dropping in on my way home with photo proofs or sitting down one-on-one to discuss the campaign.

Final words?

Real estate is an extremely rewarding career and I juggle it every day. Between being a mum to my 3 kids, a wife, a daughter, a friend and a career woman, it’s not easy but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I thrive on being busy and having challenges. It’s shaped who I am today.
