How to Find the Perfect Rug
Often overlooked, a rug can really lift and enhance a room but it can be tricky to get right – discover our tips for finding the perfect piece.
Take your time looking at all the rugs on offer to decide what’s right for you, and don’t forget to look online for original styles that are hard to come by.
Consider the Style of your Home
Is your home bold and colourful, or is it more of a minimal space? A rug can be used to coordinate and complement the rest of your décor, or it can be a contrasting, eye-catching accent piece. Whatever your personal preference, consider the rest of your apartment carefully before investing in a style.
Go for Functional Fibres
Depending where you place your rug will hugely influence which material you go for. For a warm, cosy and long-lasting premium rug, natural fibres such as wool and cotton are the best choice, while nylon and woven fibres such as jute are durable and great for hard-wearing areas.
Choose a Classic Pattern
A patterned rug can make a real statement in a room. Opt for stripes and chevron in monochrome or primary colours for a timeless choice that you won’t tire of.
Measure the space you intend to put your rug before purchasing. A full room rug should leave room for a border of flooring, while if it’s under a dining or coffee table, the rug should extend beyond the piece on all sides. If in doubt, bigger is better, and excess rug can always be hidden under furniture.
