AREA Profile

Mentone is a small bayside suburb with a cheerful presence. From European heritage to multiculturalism, and modest suburban homes to old beachfront mansions, it's bursting with a buzzing character. The central shopping village is lined with wholesome schools and family-owned shops, and the cafe owners always pop out for a chat. It's simple and unaffected; charismatic with traditional community values.

The beach is known for its beauty, as are the houses fronting onto it. Further inland, the glamour makes way for simpler dwellings built for comfort and lifestyle. Melbourne's development wave hasn't yet overtaken Mentone, so homes are as they were 50 and even 100 years ago.

Mentone's rich history is evident at every turn, from the historically-preserved railway station, RSL, grammar school buildings and main streets to the long-established gardens and third- and fourth-generation family businesses.

It captures the best of two worlds: all the delights of a small town and just half an hour from the CBD. It's also closely located to the popular seaside communities of Brighton, Hampton and Mordialloc, and is part of the City of Kingston.
